What We Do

Through our practical, pragmatic approach and varied range of services, we can help you increase operational efficiencies, spend smarter and reduce risks.

About Us

Who We Are

We formed Fulcrum HTS to help bridge the gap between the hotel technical and hotel operational teams by acting as an unbiased and solutions-driven intermediary. We aim to provide innovative and robust design solutions for the client’s overall benefit and, ultimately, their guests’ enjoyment and well-being.

We operate with empathy. Our forward-thinking approach allows us to facilitate and enable great design. We encourage smarter spending – minimising risks and abortive work.

Who We Are

Project Brief Development

Project Brief Development

With our experience of manufacturing and materials, FHTS can advise on all value engineering and cost complexity for any refurbishment or newbuild project.

As part of any value engineering study, we will present a range of options along with our recommendations and an appraisal of any pros and cons we should be aware of.

We work with suppliers, contractors and builders alike to determine the best solutions for the project. While we welcome overall cost reduction, it must also represent good value.

We keenly focus on maintaining value for money, quality of materials, and design durability when working to reduce overall cost.

Survey + Technical Feasibility

Survey + Technical Feasibility

Survey + Technical Feasibility

Having detailed a client brief, we can carry out a site survey to assess the technical feasibility of the proposals.

This detailed report will consider physical aspects within the site, existing services, the potential logistical challenges, budget risks and potential disruption to service caused by the works.

We have experience in all hospitality areas, both front and back of house, and are well aware that some complex spaces such as Spa suites and show kitchens need very detailed and specific consideration.

Scope of Work Documentation

Scope of Work Documentation

Before going out to tender for any aspect of services or supply, we will create a structured set of documents that specify the exact scope and specification of what we require.

We can co-ordinate external consultants for interior design, catering, lighting, IT, acoustics etc., to produce a fully considered and robust information package.

In these instances, we will manage the proposal process, brief each consultant, deal with any queries, and assess their final proposals on the client’s behalf.

Contractor Tender + Appointment

Contractor Tender + Appointment

With the design proposals and specification approval, we can represent the client in the tender and negotiation process with potential contractors.

As an independent company, we will appraise all returns with no bias and give a concise report on why we are making the relevant recommendations for appointment.

While we can always consider alternative materials or details at a later time, service providers must be able to quote on a like for like basis against their competitors, so we can fairly assess the merits of each companies’ proposal.

We will then evaluate each quote and make considered recommendations to the client.

Project Management

Project Management

Project Management

Our approach to project management reduces risk and helps clients deliver projects consistently and effectively - no matter what stage of the project lifecycle we are appointed.

We can entirely manage a turnkey project from inception to completion or take a specific block of work or assist in a particular project stage.

We take a flexible approach to what we provide. Still, in each case, we will use the same diligence to work collaboratively with all parties involved and deliver detailed project planning and accurate progress reporting throughout.

Procurement

Procurement

We provide support to Owners, Architects and Designers on standalone procurement projects. Our services include expertly sourced: Furniture Fixtures + Equipment (FF+E), Operating Supplies + Equipment (OS+E), and Artwork + Signage.

A turnkey service, working from conception to completion for new build and refurbishment, includes design and specification management, product selection, trials and development, procurement, logistics, expediting, installation and quality control.

To identify the best supplier, goods, or services for your individual needs, we consider quality, performance, availability, service, logistics and product lifecycle to offer the best value.

As part of a team of specialists, we coordinated transforming the Trident Grill and what was once a pool deck with a retractable glazed roof into a welcoming day-to-night dining venue.

This involved technical changes to the vessels structure and services (such as HVAC, catering etc.), so it demanded close liaison with the shipboard crew and class to ensure compliance and approval was achieved.

Our successful space planning and technical coordination allowed for a new ‘open seating’ concept to enable guests to dine at their leisure, affording more choices and flexibility for dining and entertainment.

Key technical considerations

  • Introduction of new A60 module and galley, requiring study and class approval
  • Review and introduction of new HVAC systems and study of solar gain as retractable roof retained
  • Relocation of existing A and B class doors to aid guest flow
  • New lighting to support day/night use, working closely with lighting designers and manufacturers
  • Utilising existing structures to ‘hang’ decorative lighting grid and integrate sprinklers in a compliant but aesthetical way

Our project management attributes include

  • Sourcing, procurement, shipping, and positioning of artwork
  • Hosted and coordinated sub-contractor, yard and owner meetings, workshops
  • Ship visits
  • Surveys
  • Mock-ups
  • Site Support

FHTS undertook initial vessel surveying and market analysis and benchmarking on behalf of the owner as this heralded a new sector for the brand to enter.

We undertook the development of the GA, including public area circulation, guest cabin module analysis and upper deck design. Due to the unique characteristics of river cruising, low bridges and tidal conditions require specific structures (fixed or loose) to be demountable, whether manually or automated. Studies and solutions were overcome, including a time and motion study to determine the safe placement of all demountable features.

Key technical considerations

  • A hydraulic ‘pop-up’ bar, incl. catering construction and a movie screen to support day/night use and entertainment function
  • Automated canopy shade
  • Demountable balustrading with integrated lighting, which involved close involvement with lighting designer
  • Budgetary analysis and control
  • Weight analysis and control

Our project management attributes include

  • Coordinating and managing design agencies, lighting consultants, naval architects and catering designers involved in the project, acting as a Design Manager
  • Ensuring compliance with maritime regulations
